Hadleigh Town Council is responsible for many functions, including the following:

Allotments - The Council owns the Bridge Street allotments and administers 4 plots at Toppesfield Close.

Bus Shelters and Public Seats - The Council owns various bus shelters and owns public seats in the town which are sited on District Council land.

Closed Churchyard - St Mary's churchyard is maintained by the Council.

Corks Lane Play Area - This is the responsibility of the Town Council and comprises of an adventure playground, swings, a slide, springers for the toddlers and a picnic area.

Council Meetings - The Town Council meets at four weekly intervals, usually on a Thursday evening. Occasional meetings of committees are required, usually held in the evening. The current committees of the Town Council are as follows-

Planning Committee - This committee meets on a three weekly cycle and consists of 12 members. The committee makes recommendations to the Local Planning Authority on planning applications.

Environment and General Purposes Committee - This committee consists of eight Members and their responsibilities include the cemetery, churchyard, memorials and public clocks. Other responsibilities include footpaths, rights of way, town guides and notice boards, footway lighting, conveniences, litter, refuse and dog fouling issues, street naming, highway related issues, e.g. car parking, traffic management, pedestrian areas, public health and pollution issues, environmental health and pollution issues, facilities for the disabled, gas, water, electricity and public transport matters, bus shelters, seats and street furniture.

Sports and Recreation Committee - This committee consists of eight Members and their responsibilities include the Millfield, cricket meadow, play areas and public open spaces, allotments, sporting and leisure development and tourism. All Committee recommendations and financial implications are brought to the full Town Council for approval.

All of the above mentioned Meetings are public meetings and all are welcome to attend.

Friars Road Cemetery - This is owned and administered by the Council. Maintenance of this is at present carried out by contract.

Guildhall Complex - The Guildhall Complex has provided social and recreational facilities to the Town for many years. The Town Council acts as Trustee for the Complex and is responsible for managing the development and the use of facilities for a wide range of purposes. Town Guide Maps and Notice Boards - The two guide maps and the public notice boards are the responsibility of the Town Council.

Litter Bins - Street litter bins in the town are provided by the Town Council.

Milestone, George St/High St - The Town Council has adopted responsibility for this monument, which has been restored and renovated.

Public Lighting - The County Council is the street lighting authority, but the Town Council is responsible for certain footway lights.

Public Rights of Way - These are mainly managed by the County Council as they are the highway authority, although the Town Council has certain concurrent functions in respect of rights of way.The Town Council is consulted on matters affecting the preservation of the public rights, for example the Definitive Map and diversions and undertakes signposting and some maintenance.

Sports and Recreation - The Council owns the cricket ground in Corks Lane which is leased by the Hadleigh Cricket Club and Millfield which is leased to the Hadleigh United Football Club. The Layham Road Sports Ground of approximately 12 acres, is also owned by the Council. On the ground are soccer, rugby and hockey pitches, an artificial cricket wicket and a floodlit all weather multi sports facility including three tennis courts. There are changing facilities with showers. The clubhouse on the site belongs to the Rugby Club on land leased by the Council.

Street Furniture - The Town Council owns and maintains various bus shelters and seats around the town.

Street Naming - The Council makes recommendations in respect of the naming of new streets and is consulted on house numbering.

Support for local organisations - Each year grants are awarded to local organisations within the town.

Town Planning - All applications for planning consent in respect of proposed development in the Town are submitted to the Town Council for consideration and recommendation. The Local Planning Authority, Babergh District Council makes the final recommendation based on the applications proposed.

War Memorial - The Town War Memorial is maintained by the Town Council.
