During the 15th Century and early 16th Century Hadleigh was possibly the most important and richest of the Suffolk wool cloth towns and this wealth is shown in the many fine medieval buildings that survive today.

For over six hundred years the timber framed Guildhall complex has been the centre of public life in Hadleigh. It has seen many changes from Market House and Guildhall to Cloth Hall, Workhouse, Assembly room, Schools and a Corset Factory - and currently the offices for the Town Council.

The building is open to the public for guided tours from June to September on Thursday and Sunday afternoons from 2.30pm to 5pm. Tours of the building are available during this time by prior arrangement, or if necessary outside normal opening hours. For further details please contact Jane Haylock on (01473) 827752.

During fine weather refreshments are served in the award winning medieval style garden.

For details about hiring the rooms within the Guildhall Complex, please contact Judith Townsend, Hadleigh Market Feoffment Charity on (01473) 822544 or click here to view the Hadleigh Guildhall website...

An Archives Panel operates within the Town Council's premises. Historical documents and other records relating to the town are in custody of the Council. Sue Andrews is a local historian and manages the Council's Archives records. She can be contacted on 01473 823884 via the Council offices.

The Town Council Offices are open from 9.30am to 12.30pm Monday to Friday and can be available at other times by prior arrangement.
